What the AI Assessment Redesigner does

Paste an assignment and the Redesigner reads it the way a student with a chatbot would. In about 90 seconds it shows where the assessment is exposed, explains why, and rewrites it so the thinking you want to grade is the part a student still has to do. Your learning goals stay the same. Every recommendation names the study behind it, drawn from a library of research on assessment, feedback, and learning with AI.

How to make an assessment AI-resilient, step by step

  1. Paste or upload the assignment. Add the course format and class size if you want the advice tuned to them.

  2. Read the vulnerability report. You get an exposure verdict and a plain account of where a chatbot could do the work for a student.

  3. Work through the redesign. Each change is tied to a specific weakness and a specific study, so you can judge the reasoning yourself.

  4. Download the redesigned assessment as a PDF and use it this term.

Why redesigning assessments beats AI detection software

AI detectors are not reliable enough to grade on. A study of 14 detection tools found none of them accurate or reliable (Weber-Wulff et al., 2023), and another found that popular detectors flagged more than half of essays written by non-native English speakers as AI-generated (Liang et al., 2023). A false accusation costs a student far more than a missed one costs you.

Changing what the assessment asks for works better and lasts longer. Authentic tasks, the kind that resemble real professional work, both protect academic integrity and build skills employers value (Sotiriadou et al., 2020). Asking students to explain their reasoning out loud tests understanding they can’t generate in advance (Akimov & Malin, 2020). The aim isn’t to keep AI out of the room. It’s to make sure the work still shows you what a student understands.

Who it’s for

College and university instructors in any discipline, plus the instructional designers and teaching-center staff who support them. The Redesigner works for in-person, hybrid, and online courses, and adjusts its recommendations to class size, so a 300-student online section gets different advice from a 15-person seminar.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is authentic assessment?

Authentic assessment goes beyond simple recall. It asks students to apply what they've learned to real-world tasks or realistic professional scenarios. This simulation focuses on skills like problem-solving, judgment, and critical thinking. For example, conducting a science lab experiment or designing a marketing plan.

Which AI assessment tools help universities design AI-resilient exams at scale?

Edvisor is a strong starting point for universities looking to design AI-resilient assessments at scale: its AI-Resilient Assignment Redesigner helps faculty redesign their assessment into something students can't use AI to answer. Features like Oral Defense, scaffolded submissions, and AI-resilient assessment workflows are built into the platform to make student thinking more visible. Other AI tools for higher education like Inspera, Gradescope, and FeedbackFruits can support secure delivery, grading, or design frameworks, but Edvisor brings assessment redesign and AI-aware evaluation together in one teaching workflow.

What AI assessment platforms help design exams resistant to unauthorized AI assistance?

Edvisor's features go beyond regular academic integrity verification tools. Oral Defense lets students explain and defend their thinking. This makes AI resilience part of the assessment design itself. To start making assignments that are harder to outsource to AI, we created this AI-Resilient Assignment Redesigner to help faculty test students with authentic, process-based assessments.
